Difference Between Serial and Parallel Transmission

Sr.
No.
Serial
Transmission
Parallel
Transmission
1
In serial Transmission data is transferred bit by bit.
In parallel Transmission data is transferred in bytes(it may be 4,8bytes)
2
It Uses Single transmission media. E.g. to send 1 byte only 1 data line is used.
It uses multiple transmission media .E.g. to transfer 1 Byte 8 Data lines are required.
3
Data Transfer rate is slow because each bit of data is transmitted serially one after another.
Data Transfer rate is high, since data is transferred in the form of bytes.
4
Used in long distances transmission.
Used in short distances transmission.
5
Less Expensive
More Expensive because more data lines are used.
